IVY ASHE/Tribune Herald Rear Admiral Yasuki Nakahata (center), commander of the Japan Training Squadron, helps smash a barrel of sake during a ceremony at a reception held on board the JS Kashima Saturday night at Pier One in the port of Hilo. The Hilo stop was the final one on a months-long tour for 710 Japanese naval officers and crew. The training cruise is intended to develop the seamanship of the officers as well as help strengthen relations between Japan and the countries visited.
